Seongsu-dong, Seoul's New Hot Place

Have you listened to Psy's Gangnam Style song? It is a representative song that led K-pop to the world stage, and Koreans love this song. The word Gangnam in the song title refers to a specific area of Seoul. Seoul is divided into north and south based on the Han River, and Gangnam is the area below the Han River. Gangnam is a place where a lot of high-quality culture is concentrated, and new culture is introduced first. Recently, the main business district has been moving to other parts of Gangbuk. Seongsu-dong was originally a factory area in Seoul, famous for leather, shoes, and car repairs. However, recently, as the factory site was maintained and changed to cafes and private dining, numerous brands began to open stores in Seongsu-dong.

Today, I'm going to introduce two brands: [Musinsa Standard Slabs Lab Seongsu] and [Polo Ralph Lauren Footwear Pop-up Store], which have different customer segments in the industry called clothing. Each has a different style, but we open a pop-up store with an interval of 10M, so if you have time, it would be good to visit both places.

Musinsa seems to be a particularly favorite brand in Seongsu-dong, and besides the stores I visited today, there are quite a few Musinsa stores in Seongsu-dong. In addition, Musinsa are preparing to open new headquarter office in Seongsu-dong, so it will be a hot place soon. The characteristic of Seongsu-dong building is that it feels like a factory, and I think Musinsa is the brand that melts this feeling the best. The exterior is red brick, the interior is silver tone, but the interior is not at all different from Seongsu-dong. There was some waiting when I came nearby on the weekend, but I could enter right away without waiting because I visited on weekdays.

Slacks have been loved for a long time, and they change little by little every year, so even though they are the same slacks, there is a difference between last year and this year's products. Slacks are becoming more popular than jeans! I think Musinsa's slacks rap, which makes slacks more attractive, is a great idea. In addition, the stylish showroom upgrades the brand image of Musinsa. It was an exhibition that was memorable for a long time with good scent besides sight. There are a variety of slacks available, so you can try them on yourself. This year's slacks, which are based on 3 million sales data, 750,000 reviews, and real-life styling from numerous customers, is also receiving positive reviews. There are various slacks on the first floor, and you can fit up to 5 pieces at a time. The second floor consists of a fitting room on the right and a photo studio on the left between the central stairs. Especially in the case of photo studios, if you wear slacks as an ongoing event, you can take self photos at the original self-portrait studio <Photomatic>.

 

Polo Ralph Lauren Footwear Pop-up Store

It is a pop-up store held at the cafe SCENE, one of the hot cafes representing Seongsu-dong. It is a very famous cafe in Seongsu-dong with a wide outdoor terrace open table in front of the building. Even before Polo, Longchham and Dior Addict already opened a pop-up store here, which is also a cafe visited by many people.  I visited without a separate reservation, and I was able to enter right away without waiting because it was a weekday. And If you enter your personal information such as your cell phone number before entering, you can get a day pass ticket immediately.

As Seongsu-dong is called Brooklyn in Korea, Polo and Seongsu-dong matched so well. I saw a lot of Polo's signature looks at  second floor. Since the space on the second floor is not very wide, there were two large experience zones. It is a place where you can take pictures according to the concept and play skateboard games, and it was a place where you can understand the MZ generation well in that you can experience and find FUN. No matter what product you buy, you can get specially made hat key ring accessories, so I saw quite a few people buying clothes. You can also get cookies if you post a picture on social media.
